The Creation

"In the beginning" seams to be the beginning three words of many creation explanations. But what I find weird is that all of these stories begin with that and almost sound like they have the same language or voice. How can five totally different cultures have the same voice in explaining how the world was created? There are ways that we try to explain this, like the movement of ideas. This idea of how the world was created may have traveled so people used somewhat of the same idea. But then how did the ideas travel? Did people travel by river? And even if people did travel, how did they spread their stories of how the world was created if they didn’t speak the same language?

Another thing that I found interesting that almost all stories had in common was that their God(s) created the first man out of clay, mud, or dust. I found that interesting because clay, mud, and dust are all simple elements that you can find on Earth. Every culture believed that God has such magnificent powers that he can make life out of anything. I believe that by the different cultures saying that God created man out of these simple elements that they are saying that God can do anything and has the powers to control anything.

Last but not least, I found it interesting that in most creation explanations there was a person of good and a person of evil. Both people had great powers, but the good person had a little more power and always ended up sending the evil under earth, which became his kingdom. In the Old Testament, this kingdom became known as Hell and the bad person who lived in the kingdom became known as the devil. In these creation stories, the good person seamed to make himself a great kingdom above earth. In the Bible, this kingdom became known as heaven and the good person is known as God.

In these creation stories, man tries to explain why we are here, or, how we got here. But, I believe that there is no true explanation to why humans are on Earth. No one will ever truly know how or why we got onto this great planet Earth. And I believe that people know this is true, but they’re afraid of that fact. They’re afraid of not knowing, so we make up these stories trying to make us feel better and make us feel like we do know, but we don’t know. We won’t know.
